Tetra Tech Careers is Hiring a Data Manager Near Virginia, VA

The Data Manager is responsible for monitoring data systems to ensure that they are organized, secure, and accessible. The Data Manager will support data system design, field data collection, data processing, and data reporting. Candidates must be competent managing project-specific relational database applications using desktop (MS Access) and enterprise (MS SQL Server) database software. Experience managing environmental data or using Earthsoft EQuIS data management systems is a plus but not required. Duties include performing simple to complex data management tasks to meet client-driven deadlines, sometimes on compressed schedules, as part of a team of engineers and scientists working together to solve our clients’ problems. This position requires the employee to be a U.S. Citizen due to the projects they will be working on.

Your Role:

 The Data Manager will play a key role in advancing digital data management initiatives, supporting electronic data capture in the field, managing relational databases, and supporting client deliverables (i.e., report figures and tables, data visualizations, and web applications). Major duties/responsibilities of the position require a working knowledge of and the ability to lead/carry out the following tasks:

• Compiling, verifying, analyzing, and reporting large and diverse datasets.
• Performing simple to complex data management tasks
• Develop comprehensive workflows to advance ongoing digital data management initiative including data collection, storage, and reporting. 
• Maintain and refine department procedures for data collection, processing, and storage.
• Meet with project team to define data needs, project requirements, or required outputs.
• Interact with internal and external providers to coordinate collection and transfer of data to project databases.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Technology, Environmental Science or related field is required.
• Minimum of 3-5 years of experience is preferred. Previous project experience in environmental consulting is preferred. 

• Proficiency in scripting languages such as R, Python, SQL, or VB to improve workflows and process efficiency. [preferred]
• Proficiency in web-based mapping applications. [preferred]
• Knowledge of server architecture and web technology is a plus]
• Experience with the front-end processes of collecting field data with various GPS units and the process of downloading and compiling the data. [preferred]
• Direct experience managing and/or collecting environmental, geologic, and geotechnical data collection. [preferred]
• Knowledge of laboratory analytical data verification and validation processes. [preferred]
• Familiarity with EQuIS is beneficial but not required. 
• Complex database management skills preferred.
• Working knowledge of database structure, query design, and maintenance. [required]
• Strong work ethic and problem-solving skills.
• Effective time management skills with the ability to meet tight deadlines.
